Harold Carstens Jr.
Harold L. “Hal” “JR” Carstens Jr., 70, of Bourbonnais, passed away Thursday (Oct. 11, 2018) at Citadel of Kankakee. He was born June 5, 1948, in Kankakee, the son of Harold L. Sr. and Clara (Abernathy) Carstens. Harold married Patricia L. Hoagland on Aug. 14, 1971, at Grace Baptist Church in Kankakee.
Hal worked for Swift Edible Oil and retired from Bunge in Bradley. He enjoyed playing softball and listening to music, especially the 1950’s and 1960’s genres. Hal was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Bourbonnais.
Hal was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served four years.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Carstens, of Bourbonnais; one son and daughter-in-law, Craig Scott and Julie Carstens, of Beavercreek, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Ann and Nelson Navarro, of Cerritos, Calif.; two grandchildren, Neil Navarro and Joshua Carstens; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Phyllis Lewis, of Phoenix, Patricia P. and Roger Lamore, of Bourbonnais, Lorraine Carstens, of Bourbonnais, and Dale (Lisa) Hoagland; two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Thomas and Shelia Carstens, of Bourbonnais, Michael and Cathy Carstens, of Kankakee, Naomi and Stephen Smith, and Margaret and Wayne Harness; father-in-law, Willard Hoagland; and several nieces and nephews. Hal was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Ron Nickles.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Calvary Bible Church in Bourbonnais, with funeral services immediately following. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
