STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) _ Pam Irvin led five Georgia starters in double figures with 27 points and the 13th-ranked Lady Bulldogs beat Georgia Southern’s Lady Eagles 84-73 Monday night.
Irvin contributed five points in a 9-1 scoring run in the last five minutes as Georgia put the game away.
Coco Miller added 18 for Georgia (2-0). Kelly Miller had 16, Dianne Lott 12 and Elena Vishniakova 11.
Telly Hall had 16 for Georgia Southern (0-3), while Svetlana Trjeskal had 13 and Mary Perry and Amy Krach added 11 each.
Leading by only six at halftime, the Lady Bulldogs opened up a nine-point lead midway through the second half. But Georgia Southern rallied behind Hall and Trjeskal to cut the lead to three at the five-minute mark.
But following two costly turnovers and Irvin’s third 3-pointer of the game, Georgia Southern’s hopes of pulling off the upset ended as Georgia finished out the game by jumping to its first double-digit lead of the night.
