Alligator captured at Florida park, where dog was attacked
VENICE, Fla. (AP) — A 13-foot alligator has been captured at a Florida park where at least one dog had been attacked and fatally injured.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports the alligator was captured Sunday at the 80-acre Shamrock Park & Nature Center in Venice.
Sarasota County Animal Services Supervisor Carl Selitti says it may be the largest that their team has ever been called to wrangle. The captured alligator will be killed.
The newspaper says Susan Kosterman and Dr. Alan Knapp had been walking their dogs when both animals ended up out of sight. Knapp told Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers that he heard a loud yelp and saw one of the dogs take off into the water.
One dog was found and euthanized, while the other dog has not been found.
