PN-G sweeps Friendswood out of playoffs
Port Neches-Groves pitchers threw two complete games to sweep a doubleheader from Friendswood Friday night to rally and win the teams’ best-of-three Class 5A baseball series in Crosby.
In the deciding third game, PN-G’s Carson Roccatorte went the distance, striking out nine while allowing just five hits in a 6-0 Indian victory.
PN-G broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning, added another in the fifth and opened a 6-0 lead with a four-run sixth.
In Friday’s first game of the night, Grant Rogers threw a complete game, striking out five and permitting just three hits in an 8-2 Indian victory.
PN-G scored three times in the first inning, and Friendswood could only manufature single runs in the second and sixth innings on runs batted in from Bradley Wilcott and William Sweeney.
Friendswood won the opening game of the series, 2-1, as Wilcott worked 6.1 innings, striking out five and allowing just four hits. Devon Andrews drove in one of the Mustang runs.
The Mustangs finished the season with a 17-11 record under first-year head coach Cory Benavides.
