Teen accused of hoax calls to police in at least 6 states
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — A teenager in Ohio has been accused of making bogus emergency calls to authorities across the U.S. and prosecutors say more charges could be coming.
Investigators in Youngstown say the teen has been making hoax calls to authorities in at least six states for more than a year.
The Dodge County sheriff in Wisconsin says one of the calls last May shut down a major highway for two hours.
A Youngstown police detective who’s leading the investigation tells The Vindicator that the calls went “all over the map.”
The teen was charged in juvenile court in March with making false alarms, inducing panic, identity fraud and several other charges.
Investigators say he would call and say someone was being held hostage at gunpoint or report some other type of emergency.
