Opening of Old Highway 99 overpass delayed
The opening of a new railroad overpass on a section of Old Highway 99 north of Burlington has been delayed until next week.
The overpass, which was originally scheduled to open this weekend, is now planned to open Tuesday or Wednesday, said Jennifer Swanson, project manager with Skagit County Public Works.
Swanson said the delay is due to an issue with a subcontractor failing to acquire the right materials for a safety fence over the tracks. The fence is required by BNSF Railway.
Skagit County has been working since May 1, 2017, to replace an 80-year-old wooden trestle overpass with a larger concrete and steel structure.
