Fever Rallies to Drop Liberty 72-68

NEW YORK (AP) _ Tamika Catchings scored four of her 17 points in the final 14 seconds to lead the Indiana Fever to a 72-68 victory at New York on Friday night, snapping the Liberty’s six-game winning streak.

The Fever, trailing by 13 points in the opening minute of the second half, rallied to beat New York for the second time _ handing the Liberty both their losses this season.

Deanna Jackson and Kelly Miller added 13 points apiece, and Natalie Williams had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Indiana.

Becky Hammon had 22 points and Crystal Robinson added 14 to lead the Liberty, who lost for the first time since dropping the season opener at Indiana _ 69-67 on May 21.

New York led 44-32 at halftime, and stretched its lead to 13 on Tari Phillips’ free throw 27 seconds into the second half.

However, Indiana then went on a 21-7 run to take a 52-51 lead with about 7 1/2 minutes remaining in the game. Catchings hit a pair of free throws to give the Fever their biggest lead of the game at 64-58.

After Catchings’ driving layup with 13.9 seconds left gave Indiana a 70-65 lead, Crystal Robinson hit a 3-pointer with 7.5 seconds remaining to cut New York’s deficit to two points.

Catchings then hit a pair of free throws with 4.7 seconds left to seal the Fever’s win.

The Fever shot 41.7 percent from the field against a Liberty team that was allowing a league-low 37-percent shooting.

Hammon had 15 points in the first half on 5-for-7 shooting from the field, including 3-for-4 on 3-pointers.
