Ciro Cinti Named First Football Head Coach Of Wolfpack At W-B Area
The Wilkes-Barre Area Wolfpack football team has its leader.
Ciro Cinti, the head coach at Coughlin the last 13 seasons, was named the first head coach of the Wolfpack at the Wilkes-Barre Area School District board meeting on Tuesday night. The board voted 8-0 to hire Cinti.
Cinti faces the task of bringing the three Wilkes-Barre public schools together under one umbrella. Citing declining numbers in all sports throughout the district, the board voted in May to merge the Coughlin, GAR and Meyers athletic programs to begin play at the beginning of the 2019-2020 sports season.
The football team will be classified at the 6A level, the highest classification in the state. Cinti took over as the head coach at Coughlin in 2006. That year the Crusaders finished 4-6. Following that season, Coughlin made 11 consecutive postseason appearances in either the district or Eastern Conference playoffs.
Cinti went 71-73 at Coughlin.
The Wolfpack will play its first game the weekend of Aug. 23-24 at Crestwood.
Wilkes-Barre will host Scranton, Nanticoke Area, Delaware Valley, Dallas and Williamsport. In addition to the road game at Crestwood, the Wolfpack will play at Hazleton Area, Valley West, Wallenpaupack and Berwick.
