Six days after being one of the many targets of Jalen Ramsey in a GQ interview, Ben Roethlisberger had his first chance to respond Tuesday.
And the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback took the high road.
“That’s the awesome thing about this country we live in,” Roethlisberger said a few hours before practice at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think he’s a fantastic football player.
“We play them at some point. They got the best of us last year, so I guess he has the right to say whatever he wants.”
The Steelers play at Ramsey’s Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 18, more than 10 months after the Jaguars’ 45-42 playoff victory. That was their second win of the season at Heinz Field; Roethlisberger threw five interceptions in a 30-9 Week 5 regular-season loss.
In the magazine interview, Ramsey gave less-than-complimentary critiques of quarterbacks across the league. For example, he said Baltimore’s Joe Flacco ”(stinks).”
Ramsey said Roethlisberger was “decent at best.
“It’s not Big Ben (why the Steelers are good), it’s (receiver Antonio Brown). Big Ben slings the ball a lot of the time. He just slings it, and his receivers go get it. He has a strong arm, but he ain’t all that. I played him twice last year, and he really disappointed me. He’ll be in the Hall of Fame and all that.”
