Local NAACP to hold debates
KANKAKEE — The Kankakee County NAACP is planning candidate forums for state representative, county clerk and county treasurer.
The forums for treasurer and clerk candidates are Oct. 9. The group will have treasurer candidates take the stage 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and clerk candidates 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.
Running for clerk are Republican incumbent Dan Hendrickson and Democrat Barbara Wells, and the treasurer candidates are Republican incumbent Nick Africano and Democrat Ray Chamberlain.
The local state representative candidates will get a third chance to debate 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Kankakee Public Library. The candidates are Republican Rep. Lindsay Parkhurst and Democrat Lisa Dugan, who are running for the 79th House District seat in the Nov. 6 election.
The state representative candidates, who took part in a forum last week, are next debating 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kankakee Community College’s main auditorium, across from the cafeteria. It will be sponsored by the college’s chapter of Lambda Epsilon Chi, a national academic honor society in paralegal studies.
