VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man skipped the last part of his sexual battery trial, and jurors convicted him while he was gone.

The Vicksburg Post reports 27-year-old Justin Chance Harris is set for sentencing Sept. 13 and faces up to life in prison. He was convicted of sexual battery on a child younger than 14.

Harris was arrested in November and a judge ordered him to wear an ankle bracelet to track his location.

Warren County District Sheriff Martin Pace says the company that monitors the device notified authorities it was removed Aug. 29. That was the last day of Harris' trial, when he failed to appear in court after lunch.

Deputies and U.S. marshals found Harris the next day in a local home and returned him to jail to await sentencing.
