Tigers’ Garner Tossed From Game

April 26, 2001

DETROIT (AP) _ Detroit manager Phil Garner was ejected by home plate umpire Dale Scott after an animated argument in the seventh inning of the Tigers’ game against Baltimore.

Garner charged out of the dugout to argue that Damion Easley was hit by Willis Roberts’ pitch after Scott ruled that the pitch hit Easley’s bat.

After a heated face-to-face conversation, Garner was ejected. Garner responded by taking Easley’s bat and pounding it on home plate. He pounded the bat on the plate a second time and then kicked it.
