Red Wings’ Yzerman Expects To Play
DETROIT (AP) _ Detroit Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman, the team’s leading scorer, said he expects to play Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings after missing the playoff opener with the flu.
``I woke up yesterday and just felt awful. Today I feel a lot better and I’m sure I’ll feel fine tomorrow,″ Yzerman said Friday.
Yzerman, who had 39 goals and 44 assists during the regular season, skated with the Red Wings on Friday. He had practiced with the Wings on Wednesday and took part in the pre-game skate on Thursday before deciding not to play in Detroit’s 2-0 victory.
``Basically I was just going to go out there and take up space. I didn’t think that was the right thing to do,″ Yzerman said.
Yzerman missed the last four regular-season games because of a sprained right knee.
