Shane Neil Faces Drug, Firearms Charges
LONDON (AP) _ A member of the British garage band So Solid Crew wept Friday as he appeared in court on drug and firearms charges.
Shane Neil, 23, is charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of illegal drugs with intent to supply and supplying illegal drugs.
Neil, whose stage name is Kaish, wept several times and bowed his head during the hour-long hearing. He was arrested Nov. 14 near London’s Leicester Square and has been in custody ever since; a judge denied him bail.
Neil is the third member of the 20-strong south London combo to face weapons charges.
Singer and producer Jason Phillips, who uses the stage name G-Man, was arrested last month on suspicion of possessing a gun.
Rapper Ashley Walters, who uses the stage name Asher D, was sentenced in March to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to possessing a loaded gun.
So Solid Crew, which cut short a national tour after a shooting at one of its concerts last year, scored a number one hit in Britain with their song ``21 Seconds.″ They won a Brit Award, Britain’s equivalent of a Grammy, for best video and picked up two prizes at the Music of Black Origin awards.
