WVC TRACK AND FIELD ROUNDUP: Warriors Get Wins Over Tigers

At Tunkhannock, both Wyoming Area teams matched their 2018 wins totals with a season-opening sweep of the Tigers in Wyoming Valley Conference track and field Thursday.

Dominic DeLuca (shot put, discus) and Jevani Sancho (100, 200) won two events apiece to lead their side past Tunkhannock, 84-66, to begin their Division 2 slate.

Tunkhannock’s Erik Bennett took first in the triple jump and long jump.

The Warriors also won the girls matchup, 78-69, although each team won nine events. Wyoming Area owned a 10-8 edge in second-place finishes and a 9-3 advantage at third place.

Valerie Gerchak won three events for Wyoming Area: the triple jump, long jump and high jump. Aubriana Marranca had the top times in the 1600 and 3200, and Madelyn Resciniti out-threw the competition in the discus and shot put.

For Tunkhannock, Kailyn Smith won the pole vault and 400, while freshman Jessica Cervenak took the 100 and 200.
