Army 76, Holy Cross 63

WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) _ George Tatum registered 21 points and 11 rebounds and Dax Pearson added career-high totals of 11 points and 10 rebounds as Army snapped a four-game series losing streak, racing past Holy Cross 76-63, Saturday afternoon.

There were five lead changes and one tie over the first eight minutes before the Crusaders grabbed their largest lead of the game at 19-14 on two free throws by Damion Ezell with 10:42 remaining in the first half. Two free throws by Kelley Anderson and a three-pointer by Tatum tied the score at 19-19 three minutes later.

The score would be tied on four other occasions, the last at 29-29 on a follow-up basket by Carlos Clark with 3:25 to play, before Army (6-5, 1-1) ended the opening stanza with a 6-0 run to take a 35-29 lead into the intermission.

In all, the Cadets sandwiched a 13-2 tear around the break, opening a 42-31 advantage on a three-point basket by Jamie Uptgraft with 17:00 remaining. Holy Cross would never lead again, pulling no closer than six points the rest of the way. Chris Rojik’s free throw with 11:39 to go brought the Crusaders within 49-43, but Army responded with six straight points on two free throws by Mike Rainey, a driving layup by Tatum and a put-back basket by Chris Glowe for a 55-43 lead with 9:11 to play.

Holy Cross sliced the deficit to seven points on several occasions down the stretch but was unable to pull any closer in falling for the fifth straight time. The Cadets enjoyed their biggest lead at 71-58 following an inside basket by Justin Johnson off a feed from Jamie Uptgraft with 43.2 seconds to go.

Rojik and Ezell led four Holy Cross players in double figures with 14 points each.
