Holy Cross 17, Penn 3
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Tom Ciaccio threw for two touchdowns and the Holy Cross defense had nine sacks as the Crusaders won the first-ever meeting with Pennsylvania 17-3 on Saturday.
Ciaccio, who completed 10 of 17 attempts for 130 yards, hit Jack Lavallete with a 20-yard touchdown pass with 5:14 left in the game to help seal Holy Cross’ first victory after a loss and a tie.
Holy Cross sacked Penn quarterback Doug Hensch six times in the opening half and recovered two fumbles. The Crusaders limited Penn (1-1) to 90 yards of total offense in the second half.
Penn took a 3-0 lead in the second quarter when Rich Friedenberg kicked a 35-yard field goal with 2:37 left in the half.
Holy Cross responded by driving 70 yards in five plays to take the lead at 7-3 when Ciaccio found Michael Lewis on a 28-yard touchdown pass with 57 seconds left in the half.
Holy Cross made it 10-3 when Rich Kenny booted a 28-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Jerome Fuller gained 26 of 46 yards on the drive. Fuller finished with 82 yards on 18 carries.
