Houston Playback Theatre offering second spring performance
Houston Playback Theatre, whose actors give audience members the unusual experience of being listened to, will perform 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 26, at The Jung Center, 5200 Montrose. Tickets are $10 at the door.
The volunteer troupe’s newest actors — Nina L. Garcia, drama therapist; Dr. Sarat Munjuluri, psychiatrist; and Andrea Randisi, attorney — will join veteran performers Marcela Descalzi, educator; Esteban Gago, speech language pathologist; Leslie Gauna, assistant professor of education at University of Houston-Clear Lake; Amy Lin, community volunteer; and Ramiro Salas, Baylor College of Medicine staff member.
At each Playback Theatre performance, audience members are invited to relate a personal experience. The actors listen intently to each story and then, without discussion, improvise a live portrayal, or “playback.” As accompaniment, one of the actor-musicians might play a few guitar chords, clarinet riff or soft bongo beat.
Now in its 24th season, Houston Playback Theatre has no permanent space but performs regularly at The Jung Center. For advance tickets or information, visit junghouston.org. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for the April 26 performance to allow time for parking.
