Leominster Skates Past North Middlesex
FITCHBURG -- The Leominster boys’ hockey team skated to an impressive 3-1 win over North Middlesex Regional on Saturday at the Wallace Civic Center.
Maliq Munoz-Preko scored a pair of goals --including an empty-netter to ice the victory -- and Bryce Vitone added another as the Blue Devils improved to 2-6-1 on the season. Ryan Riel scored a third-period goal, assisted by Ryan Lavery and Ethan Freeman, for North Middlesex. Leominster goalie Brett Jeffrey finished with 25 saves, while Patriots netminder Tyler Melanson made 24 stops.

Junior Nicholas Tracy (6 rebounds) and senior Jonathan Perez (3 rebounds) scored 22 points each to lead Fitchburg State (4-9) in the hard-fought loss.

Junior Angelina Marazzi scored a team-best 15 points and added three rebounds for Fitchburg State (6-6), while teammates Emma Thomson and Emily Beauvais added six points each.
Goalie Nick Kischitz finished with 21 saves for Nashoba Regional (3-4).
Ashley Bourn made 24 saves for Oakmont Regional (0-6-1) in defeat.
Michael Alleva finished fifth in the 2-mile with a time of 10:42.83 to lead Lunenburg at the Red Auerbach Freshman-Sophomore Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.
Also running well for Lunenburg, Wes Frank set a personal record in the 1,000; Brady Iovanni ran the 55-meter high hurdles in 9.89 seconds; and Robbie Nash ran a time of 41.81 in the 300 meters, and also led the 4x400 relay team -- along with Frank, Alleva and Iovanni -- to a time of 4:11.22.
Nicole Lawrence finished second in the high jump (5 feet), and Isabella Brackett placed eight in the 55-meter dash (7.78 seconds, personal record) to medal for Lunenburg at the Red Auerbach Freshman-Sophomore Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.
Setting personal records on the day for the Blue Knights were Ava Pilon (5:55) and Grace Roy (5:57) in the mile, as well as Gabriella Maia (1:50), Keena Kelly (1:52) and Paige Gengler (1:53) in the 600. The 4x400 relay of Kelly, Gengler, Lawrence and Maia also set a personal record with a time of 4:37.
High school wrestling
Host Nashoba Regional placed second at Saturday’s Demeo Duals meet in Bolton. The Chieftains (7-4-1) battled their way past Wayland, Dracut and Milford (New Hampshire), before losing to Central Catholic in the final. Nashoba had 4-0 performances from Brevin Cassella, Lucien Perla and Ben Worden. Dylan Brown and Wilson Homer also wrestled well, picking up pins in the win over Wayland.
Nashoba will next host league rival Marlboro on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
