Gold’s Gym Zumba group spreads Christmas cheer

December 23, 2018

Instead of working up a sweat at Gold’s Gym in Aiken, the morning Zumba group at the facility went out Friday and helped others get into the holiday spirit.

“We always do a flash mob every year, and we’ve always done it at Halloween,” said Amy Patheja, a Gold’s Gym Zumba instructor. “But this year, we decided to spread some Christmas cheer by going to some places where they don’t have enough visitors.”

Dressed in red and green holiday attire, the approximately 20 people in the Gold’s Gym group made stops at We Care Residential, Cumberland Village and Trinity on Laurens. They performed routines to “Jingle Bells,” “The 12 Days of Christmas” and other songs.

In addition, they handed out sleighs made of candy to the members of their audiences.

A performance in downtown Aiken in front of Lionel Smith Ltd. and lunch at the Aiken Brewing Co. also were on the group’s schedule, Patheja said.

During lunch, the group presented gifts to a family in need it had adopted for Christmas.
