Reds player Hunt served court notice in drugs investigation
BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — The Queensland Reds have stood down star recruit Karmichael Hunt after he was ordered to appear in court in relation to a police investigation into drug distribution.
The Reds said in a statement Friday that Hunt, who played rugby league for Australia before switching to Australian rules football and then to rugby union, had not been arrested or charged but received a notice to appear in court on March 5.
Local media said the matter related to cocaine, and also involved two players from the National Rugby League club the Gold Coast Titans.
Hunt played last year with the Gold Coast Suns in the Australian Football League before signing a three-year contract to play Super Rugby for the Reds, who said he will not play Saturday against Western Force.
