Village of Tanglewood residents participate in activities they enjoy

September 21, 2018

One of Houston’s premier retirement communities located minutes from the Galleria, The Village of Tanglewood offers seniors independent living and a truly comprehensive approach to life enrichment, with programs designed to meet emotional, social, spiritual, physical and educational wellness. Residents are empowered to “Live Life Well.”

For Roddie Stiles, living well is about “choice” and it’s ultimately what influenced her decision to make the Village of Tanglewood her home.

“I love the idea of choice, that I can be with friends and participate in a host of activities or resign myself to my apartment and be alone where I love to paint. There’s always something going on,” Stiles said.

Recently, Stiles’ paintings were on display in the Village Bistro. Her works were so popular, she even managed to sell a few. That led the Village of Tanglewood to create the “Art Wall.” With the participation of Archway Gallery, which is a partnership of regionally and nationally recognized professional artists, the community is transformed every six weeks or so, showcasing the talents and works of a different artist.

“The community is instantly transformed with every new exhibit. It’s truly exciting for residents, their family members and the team here. We love it,” said Bruce Hutmacher, executive director.

To launch a new exhibit, The Village of Tanglewood schedules a mini art-opening event with an opportunity for residents, their family members and the public to view the works and visit directly with the artist.

Complete with wine, champagne and hors d’oeuvres, the event makes for an informative and entertaining evening.
