Man believed to be ‘stealth bandit’ arrested after chase
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ A man suspected of calmly robbing 14 banks of modest amounts of cash since March 1996 was arrested after a holdup, a police chase and a bomb scare.
Val Keith Yuen was charged Tuesday with robbing two Henrico County banks. Police said more charges were likely.
Police believe he is the ``stealth bandit″ who calmly strolled into the Richmond-area banks, made polite small talk with tellers and got away with small amounts of cash.
After Tuesday’s holdup, witnesses saw the getaway car, and a police officer spotted one matching its description about five miles away. The suspect sped away and an undercover officer finally stopped him.
Police fired at Yuen, who brandished a 9mm Uzi, but no one was injured. A stretch of Interstate 64 was closed after police found what appeared to be a bomb in the car. But they concluded the device was not a bomb.
