Car Bomb Kills Woman Going to Buy Baby’s Milk
BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) _ A German woman going to buy milk for her 7-month-old daughter died today when a bomb tore apart the car she was driving, police said.
The one-pound bomb went off a few minutes after Gabrielle Hilson, 29, started her Fiat Uno in the Christian village of Ghadir, 10 miles northeast of Beirut, police said.
Police said the bomb was in the car, but they did not know how it was detonated.
Ghassan Mustafa Habbas, the victim’s 42-year-old Lebanese Muslim husband, was detained for questioning, police said.
Police said the couple, who were married 18 months ago, owned the High Noon restaurant in the affluent Mediterranean Christian township of Kaslik, just north of Beirut, and worked for an unidentified German television organization.
