January 20, 2019

DANBURY — A city police officer spotted a fire on a porch Saturday afternoon while on patrol and quickly jumped into action.

Around 12:40 p.m., Danbury Police Officer Emilio Masella noticed a fire on a second floor porch in the 100 block of Rose Hill Avenue while on patrol.

Masella immediately called in the fire department before pulling out the fire extinguisher from his patrol car in an effort to slow down the fire’s progress, officials said.

Additional Danbury police officers joined the effort and were able to get alert the occupants of the dwelling. Officials said the fire department showed up within minutes and immediately pulled out a hose line and finished putting out the blaze.

Fire units were able to extinguish the flames in about 20 minutes and no one was injured by the fire, according to fire officials.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire, officials said.
