Soccer Star Jose Aguas, 70, Dies
LISBON, Portugal (AP) _ Jose Aguas, the striker who teamed with Eusebio during the Portuguese soccer club’s golden era in the 1960s, has died at 70.
Aguas died Sunday in the hospital, the Portuguese news agency Lusa said. He had been ill for a few years and was hospitalized several weeks ago. No further details were disclosed.
Born in Angola, Aguas helped Benfica win European championships in 1961 and 1962. Aguas’ son, Rui, went on to join the club, then played for the national team.
The funeral was expected to be Tuesday, Lusa said.
