Exercise your right as a citizen by registering to vote: editorial

Ohioans have until Tuesday to register to vote or update their registrations for the Nov. 6 elections. It’s worth a moment of your time to do so – and fast and easy, since you can do so online at https://olvr.sos.state.oh.us/

Think your vote doesn’t matter? Think again. Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has documented scores of local elections decided by just one vote (or tied) in recent years -- including 59 on the May primary ballot alone.

Think your demographic is one politicians don’t care about? Reconsider. Maybe you think that being a young Latina, or a middle-aged professional woman, or an older white guy or a factory worker just doesn’t cut it in the larger political scheme of things. But it can and will when you can speak through the ballot box.

You can register by mail or in person at your local boards of elections. And if you’re uncertain whether you’re still registered, you can check that online, too, using the state’s voter registration search tool.

Register by Tuesday, Oct. 9. And then vote! Early voting in the Nov. 6 election starts the next day.
