Fla. Atlantic 76, SE Louisiana 62

HAMMOND, La. (AP) _ Damon Arnette led Florida Atlantic in scoring to defeat Southeastern Louisiana University 76-62 in Trans America Athletic Conference men’s basketball Thursday.

Southeastern fell to 2-10 and 0-2 on the year while Florida Atlantic FAU improved to 6-5 and 2-0. Arnette also had the game-high 11 rebounds. Philip Huyler added 18 points and Craig Buchanan tossed in 17.

SLU was led by Noble Evans with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

FAU shot 53 percent (25-47) from the floor and outrebounded the Lions 42 to 38 as the Owls led 26-24 at the half.

SLU was held to 30 percent shooting from the floor (21-71). SLU’s Troy Green was held to eight points under his average as the Lions’ leading scorer notched just nine points.

FAU took the lead for good in the game with 1:23 to play in the first half. Buchanan’s jumper and a free throw by Arnette game the Owls the lead at intermission. The lead changed hands six times in the first half. FAU led by as many as six points and SLU held a three-point lead midway through the first half.

FAU’s biggest lead of the game came with 10:34 to go in the game. Arnette completed a three-point play and Huyler hit two free throws and the Owls led by 17 at 56-39. SLU would cut the lead to eight points, 68-60 with 3:21 to go on a 3-pointer by Glenn Charles. But FAU answered with an 8-0 run to hold off SLU’s late charge.
