A motorist who allegedly fled from an Idaho State Police trooper, crashed the vehicle he was driving, then walked all night to try to escape has been arrested after an all-night search by authorities.

Jason White, 41, of Freedom, Wyoming, was taken into custody about 6:15 a.m. Tuesday by Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies in the area of 60th E. and Sunnyside Road, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities were tipped off by a passerby who saw White trying to hitchhike and reported a suspicious person.

Authorities had looked for White in the Kepps Crossing Road area near Willow Creek overnight.

SWAT units from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Falls Police Department — along with Idaho State Police, Fish and Game, and Forest Service Law Enforcement — participated in the effort due to the the terrain, large area, nightfall and cold weather, authorities said.

Deputies arrested White without incident. When he was taken into custody, his shoes were in tatters.

White was booked into the Bonneville County Jail for two warrants out of Lincoln County, Wyoming. The warrants were related to probation violations on previous convictions of domestic violence and attempted strangulation, according to the news release.

Further charges related to allegedly fleeing Idaho State Police are pending.
