January 21, 1997

CINCINNATI (AP) _ Right-hander Hector Carrasco and the Cincinnati Reds agreed to a $530,000, one-year contract, nearly triple his $180,000 salary last season.

The right-hander was 4-3 with a 3.75 ERA in 56 games for the Reds last year. He was 0-1 with a 2.14 ERA in 13 appearances for Class AAA Indianapolis.

Carrasco, a reliever, led the Reds’ staff by limiting hitters to a .214 batting average overall.

Second baseman Bret Boone and pitcher Dave Burba are the Reds’ remaining arbitration-eligible players.

Carrasco’s deal was announced late Monday.
