Whitewater Figure in Serious Condition After Surgery
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) _ Whitewater figure James McDougal was in serious condition Wednesday after surgery to restore blood flow to his legs.
McDougal, 54, of Arkadelphia, was placed in intensive care at Baptist Medical Center, which is normal after such an operation, said hospital spokeswoman Missy Nesterenko.
Doctors hoped the surgery would relieve McDougal of severe leg pain from clogged veins behind his knees from a 1986 stroke.
Investigators are looking into the failure of Madison Guaranty Savings and Loan, which was operated by McDougal. McDougal and his ex-wife, Susan, were partners with Bill and Hillary Clinton in the Whitewater Development Corp., a real estate venture in northern Arkansas.
