Bowling Green 31, Central Michigan 27

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) _ Courtney Davis rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown and Bowling Green built a 24-7 lead before holding off Central Michigan 31-27 Saturday.

The Falcons (3-1 overall, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) overcame a record performance by Central Michigan quarterback Chad Darnell. He threw for four touchdowns and set school marks for passing yards (435) and total offense (429).

Darnell was 22-of-40 with two interceptions and had minus-6 yards on six rushes.

The teams scored all but three of their points in a wild second half, including a 35-point third quarter.

Ahead 3-0 at the half, Bowling Green pushed the lead to 10-0 when Tony Everhart returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown.

The Chippewas (2-3, 1-1) responded with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Darnell to Reggie Allen. Bowling Green countered on a 29-yard run by Davis and Bob Niemet’s 24-yard pass to Terry Loville for the 24-7 lead.

Darnell then completed touchdown passes of 32 yards to Rory Nevin and 54 yards to Bryan Schorman to narrow the gap to 24-21.

Niemet ran for a 3-yard touchdown with 5:30 remaining to put the Falcons ahead by 10. Darnell hit Schorman with an 18-yard pass with less than a minute left.
