Tennessee signs five-star guard James, forward Pember
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has signed five-star guard prospect Josiah-Jordan James and local forward Drew Pember.
James is the nation’s No. 14 prospect in his class, according to composite rankings of recruiting sites compiled by 247Sports . He’s the highest-rated prospect to sign with Tennessee during Rick Barnes’ coaching tenure.
The 6-foot-7 guard has helped Porter-Gaud School of Charleston, South Carolina, win three state championships.
Barnes said James “has a great disposition as a point guard to lead.” Barnes added that “we think he’ll fit right into our culture and what we’re trying to do.”
Pember helped Knoxville’s Bearden High School reach the Tennessee Class AAA state semifinals last season. Barnes said the 6-9 forward is “a tremendous outside shooter, but he really has the ability to do just about everything on the basketball court.”
