Maryland Forward Travis Garrison Charged
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) _ Maryland forward Travis Garrison was charged with second-degree assault and a fourth-degree sex offense for allegedly grabbing and hitting a woman in a bar last year.
Both charges are misdemeanors.
The 21-year-old senior turned himself in and appeared before a Prince George’s County District Court commissioner Friday, county police said.
The incident reportedly occurred Oct. 27 at the Cornerstone Grill and Loft in College Park. A woman said that Garrison grabbed her buttocks three times, The (Baltimore) Sun reported, citing court documents.
The woman said she pushed Garrison away, and he hit her in the face with his hand, causing her lip to bleed.
The woman left the bar shortly after and reported the incident to the Prince George’s County Police Department. She filed for charges last month.
Garrison was ordered not to have any contact with the woman, and to stay away from the bar.
A trial is set for April 7.
Maryland said in a statement that the athletics department will review the case.
Garrison has started nine games this season and is averaging 9.7 points and 6.5 rebounds.
