Their summer travel season started June 8-10 at the IUP Showcase in Indiana, and ended July 20-22 at the Showdown in Steel Town in Monroeville.
In between, the Pittsburgh Spirit 18U Gold LaViere team traveled to Ohio twice, New York, Virginia and Newtown, Pa.
The Spirit 18U Gold squad competed in the Pennsbury Showcase (June 13-17) in Newtown, Fastpitch Classic (June 22-24) in Toledo, Aunt Rosie’s (June 29-July 1) in Buffalo, Shootout at Berliner Park (July 6-8) in Columbus, and Legends Showcase (July 13-15) in Virginia Beach.
“We won a huge showcase last weekend up in Ohio State,” said Baldwin’s Addie Tagg following the tournament in Columbus.
The Spirit Gold’s summer roster was made up of 12 WPIAL players and one from West Virginia.
Ambridge was represetned by Alex Bupp (OF/1B) and Kimberly Kuzma (1B/C/OF); Shady Side Academy by Kate Hart (OF/1B) and Trinity Murphy (3B/SS/OF); and North Hills by Kallie Kretzler (2B/3B/OF) and Bethany Wittig (C/3B/OF),
Other players on the team include Tagg (P/1B/3B), Knoch’s Monica Gurley (SS/2B/P/OF), Derry’s Kamryn Kelly (1B/OF), Latrobe’s Makayla Munchinski (C/3B/1B), Montour’s Lindsey Penz (3B/SS/2B/OF), Keystone Oaks’ Sophia Piatt (3B/2B/C/OF) and Hayden Powroznik (P/SS/3B/OF) of University High School, W.Va.
This is the eighth year of travel ball competition for Tagg, a right-handed hurler and three-year starter at Baldwin. She played for the Pittsburgh Spirit 16U Gold in 2017, and for the Renegades from 2011-2016.
Tagg also has participated in the Coastal Carolina camp, Queen of Diamonds South showcase, Robert Morris University camp, Queen of Diamonds North showcase and Seton Hill University camp.
At Baldwin, Tagg has a 3.74 GPA, and is a high honor student. She is a member of the National Honor Society, French Club, Highlander Choir, Gifted Program and Special Olympics Club.
Tagg is a two-time first-team all-section selection, and was named MVP at the Queen of Diamonds North showcase.
