Pittsfield woman sentenced for stealing from patients
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Pittsfield woman convicted of stealing about $170,000 from the accounts of patients at the nursing home where she worked has been sentenced to up to four years in jail.
Debora Goyette was sentenced Tuesday after being found guilty last week of three counts of larceny and one count of making false entries in corporate books.
Prosecutors say between 2009 and 2012 the 46-year-old Goyette stole from patients at the Hillcrest Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Goyette had oversight of patient accounts and created the shopping system patients used to have items purchased for them.
The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/208VdIR ) reports that Goyette’s attorney sought a lighter two-year jail sentence, with one year to serve and the balance suspended for a period of probation.
