INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — The owner of the Forum, the famous Southern California concert and sports arena, has filed a damage claim against the city of Inglewood for entering into a deal to possibly build a new Los Angeles Clippers arena down the street.

The City Council last month approved a negotiating agreement with the Clippers that could lead to construction of an arena for the NBA team across from the future home of the NFL's Chargers and Rams.

The Daily Breeze newspaper (http://bit.ly/2uMnWPr ) says Madison Square Garden Company filed a claim Wednesday, alleging Mayor James Butts used a bait-and-switch strategy to coerce Forum executives into clearing the way for the project.

If the city rejects the claim, a lawsuit could follow.

Butts says Thursday he believes an amicable resolution can be reached.
