Police Warn of Package-stealing Spree
LOWELL -- Following a rash of stolen packages, Lowell police are warning residents to take precautions with items delivered to their homes this holiday season.
According to a police press release issued Wednesday, there have been 17 packages reported stolen throughout the city since Dec. 1.
“Residents should take necessary steps to prevent this crime of opportunity by establishing a plan for delivery of packages to their residence,” the release states.
The Lowell Police Department advises:
n Track your packages through systems offered by FedEx, UPS and Amazon, which include alerts sent via text or email.
n Track your U.S. Postal Service packages with the Informed Delivery Service.
n Arrange a package delivery time when you are home, or have a family member or neighbor pick up the package.
n Be aware of suspicious people or vehicles roaming the neighborhood searching for packages.
