Asphyxiation killed dry ice delivery driver in Anoka County; ID released

November 26, 2018

Authorities say that asphyxiation killed a dry ice delivery driver last week outside a McDonalds in Spring Lake Park.

Amos Nagbe, 58, of Brooklyn Center, was identified Sunday as the truck driver who was overcome by a chemical leak in his truck Wednesday while at the fast-food outlet on Hwy. 65 north of 81st Avenue NE., according to the Midwest Medical Examiners Office.

Nagbe died as a result of asphyxia due to exclusion of oxygen, a statement from the examiners office read.

He was found dead about 9:30 a.m. in the back of the truck, where he was checking on some sort of mechanical failure and was overcome by liquid carbon dioxide while trying to fix the problem, a statement from the Sheriffs Office read.

The leak prompted a call for a hazardous materials team to respond to the scene, according to emergency dispatch audio. However, there was no danger to the general public, the Sheriffs Office said.
