MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Police in a New Hampshire city say a sign discouraging panhandling has been vandalized.

WMUR-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2uzQ2vK ) Manchester police discovered one of the newly installed panhandling signs had been covered in black spray paint Wednesday. The signs were installed around the city to deter people from giving to panhandlers who may spend the money on drugs and overdose.

Instead, the signs ask people to donate to local nonprofit organizations.

No arrests have been made.
