Police: Officer wounds man in shootout during traffic stop
DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Police say an officer has wounded a man in a shootout during a traffic stop outside Atlanta.
DeKalb County police Chief James Conroy tells news outlets the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition after the officer shot him Tuesday night. Conroy also said at a news conference that no officers were hurt.
Conroy says the officer had stopped a car with the man and two other people inside. He says the man ran away, jumped over a fence and fired at least one shot at the officer.
Conroy says the two other people were brought in for questioning. Police didn’t say why the officer had pulled them over.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation tweeted that the police department asked it to investigate the shooting.
