Justice companies to hire 150 miners in eastern Kentucky

PHELPS, Ky. — Coal companies owned by West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced Monday that they are reopening three mining sites in Eastern Kentucky, two in Pike County and one in Letcher County.

According to a press release, the mines are expected to employ about 150 people.

The Pike County sites are the Bent Mountain surface mine near Meta and the Beech Creek surface mine near Phelps. The Letcher County mine is the A&G Coal No. 4 surface mine near Whitesburg.

Equipment is being hauled in, and production is scheduled to begin immediately, according to the release.
