Girl Loses Leg in Lebanon Blast
SIDON, Lebanon (AP) _ An 8-year-old girl playing in a field outside her home was severely injured when a land mine believed left over from Lebanon’s civil war exploded.
Lamis Abou Daher was playing near her home outside the southern port city of Sidon on Saturday when the land mine went off, security officials said.
She was transported to a hospital in Sidon where doctors amputated her right leg from the knee, the officials said. The land mine was believed to have been planted during the 1975-90 Lebanese conflict.
Two children were killed in May when a land mine went off as they played in a field near their village in eastern Lebanon.
