YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) _ A grandstand holding 400 guests collapsed at the funeral of an exiled Roman Catholic priest, injuring 50 people, Cameroon Radio said Sunday.

The official radio said the accident occurred Saturday during the burial of Monsignor Albert Ndongmo in the central town of Nkongsamba.

The monsignor died on May 29 in Canada. He had lived there since 1970, when he was accused of taking part in a failed coup against then-President Ahmadou Ahidjo and forced to leave the country.

Ndongmo was permitted to visit Cameroon during the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1985, but President Paul Biya would not let him return permanently.
