Reed Gets $3.2M Deal With Indians
BOSTON (AP) _ Right-hander Steve Reed, 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his first eight games this year, agreed Friday to a $3.2 million, two-year contract extension with the Cleveland Indians.
Reed, 33, his making $1.3 million this year and had been eligible for free agency after the season. He will get $1.6 million a year under the extension, which covers 2000 and 2001.
Cleveland acquired Reed from San Francisco last July 23 along with outfielder Jacob Cruz for reliever Jose Mesa, pitcher Al Morman and infielder Shawon Dunston, He was a combined 4-3 with a 3.14 in 70 games last year, and has a 31-21 record with 16 saves and a 3.50 ERA in 425 major league relief appearances.
