Akron firefighters battle blaze at former bowling alley

AKRON, Ohio — A former bowling alley caught fire late Tuesday night, forcing the partial closure of East Tallmadge Avenue.

Lt. Sierjie Lash says the fire at the former Midway Lanes, 1070 E. Tallmadge Ave. in the Chapel Hill neighborhood, was reported at about 10:30 p.m.

Lash says firefighters are taking a defensive strategy because of dangerous conditions.

Two ladder trucks were on the scene battling the blaze.

Residents are being advised to avoid the area.

The bowling alley closed in 2014.
