Frankfurt Wins in NFL Europe
GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) _ Damon Huard threw two touchdown passes to Darrick Branch as the Frankfurt Galaxy stayed in title contention with a 15-12 victory over the Scottish Claymores in the NFL Europe League Sunday.
The victory gave the Galaxy a 5-3 record. They are second in the standings, behind the Rhein Fire, who clinched a berth in the World Bowl by beating the England Monarchs 12-7 Saturday.
The Claymores went ahead on a 45-yard field goal by Jon Baker at 9:14 of the opening quarter. A 7-yard touchdown pass from Huard to Branch gave the Galaxy the lead with 42 seconds left in the quarter.
Scotland regained the lead 9-7 on a 29-yard pass from Jim Ballard to Willie Tate at 1:53 of the second period. Gary Parker missed the extra point but kicked a 22-yard field goal for a 12-7 lead with 3:16 to play. He also missed a 36-yarder on the final play of the half.
With Kleinmann missing field goals from 48 and 36 yards, there was no scoring in the third. But in the fourth, the Galaxy scored on a 3-yard pass from Huard to Branch and a 2-point conversion, Huard to Jorg Heckenbach, at 1:17.
