Ump Throws Out Angels’ Belcher
SEATTLE (AP) _ Anaheim Angels starter Tim Belcher and manager Mike Scioscia were ejected in the second inning against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night after Belcher was called for a balk that brought home a run.
With runners on first and third and Mike Cameron batting, Belcher faked a throw to third, but his foot came toward the plate, making it a balk.
Belcher walked toward home plate umpire Mike DiMuro after Joe Oliver scored from third to put the Mariners ahead 3-0 and was ejected after an animated argument. Scioscia came out and got between Belcher and DiMuro, and was thrown out after Belcher was ejected.
Belcher gave up a home run to David Bell to lead off Seattle’s second.
Belcher made his third start after coming off the disabled list on June 17. He underwent surgery on his right flexor muscle Dec. 2.
It was Scioscia’s second ejection this season and Belcher’s first.
