Rockies Take Mercker, Chouinard
DENVER (AP) _ Left-hander Kent Mercker and right-hander Bobby Chouinard agreed to minor league contracts with the Colorado Rockies.
Mercker, 33, sat out last season after a cerebral hemorrhage sustained while with Anaheim in 2000.
Chouinard, recovering from surgery for a torn labrum, will not participate in major league spring training but will be in Tucson, Ariz. to continue his rehabilitation.
Both deals were announced Wednesday.
Colorado also is interested in signing Pete Harnisch, a 35-year-old pitcher who went 38-23 with Cincinnati from 1998 to 2000. He was limited to seven appearances last year because of right elbow tendinitis and rotator cuff soreness.
