Five Dead in Japanese Float Crash
TOKYO (AP) _ A van driven by a man who had been drinking plowed into a float during a religious festival Saturday, killing five and injuring 23.
The float was the last of four moving in a procession through the town of Daigo, about 80 miles northeast of Tokyo, police said.
Police arrested the driver of the van on charges of negligence resulting in death or injury.
The festival is held in the spring every few years in honor of a local Shinto shrine. Shinto is Japan’s indigenous religion.
